proper use instructions:
1.Be sure you have your pet under control before attempting to attach the retractable leash.

To temporarily hold your pet at a certain length, hold down the large black button with your thumb. once released the leash will then begin to retract.
4.If the retractable leash separates itself from your dog's collar during use, immediately turn your face away and instantly apply the brake button.
